Alexandra Comanici, my story...

Alexandra was born on February 21st, 1986 in Ploiesti, Romania in a family of engineers, as a much desired and awaited child, coming 7 years after the birth of her only sister.

Her childhood was a dream, spent close to her grandparents who were always around. She spent all holidays at her great-grandparents' house, where she could easily find the company of her most beloved beings: the animals. She loved them so much, that when her older sister went to college, she showed up home with a puny kitten convincing her family to adopt it.

Her decision to attend a faculty of human or veterinary medicine had to be changed at the very last moment, when she realized that it would be an unbearable pain for her to see her loved ones sufferings, therefore she chose dentistry.
Two years ago, during a difficult period for her, after the loss of one of the grandparents, she met someone special who later was there for her for better or for worse - Bogdan. They were very happy together, and on many occasions she used to say without any doubts, that he was the one who taught her what love really means, and with whom she felt loved, valued and safe.
They were planning to become engaged during the holiday break, namely Christmas in 2009, but then the terrible news of Alexandra's illness took everyone by surprise and left them speechless.

Despite everything, Bogdan made a great gesture, worthy of everybody's respect. They were engaged in a celebration that took place in the hospital, two weeks after diagnosis. As if the illness was not a big enough problem, there was even worse news: although Alexandra and her sister, Livia, have very close physical similarities and share the same blood type, they are not genetically compatible. This meant that the best therapeutic option for Alexandra, a stem cell transplantation, could not be made from her sister.

The only solution remains a transplant from an unrelated donor with whom she might be compatible, despite the small probability.

At this time Alexandra is admitted to a specialized clinic in Italy where she is expecting the results of the search for somebody with compatible genes. She is optimistic, confident in her chances and in a fate that will be on her side.

Although her body is under serious strain as she goes through a very aggressive therapy with cytostatic agents, one can tell she's not giving up and she's optimistic by looking in her eyes. They are as friendly, playfull and happy as they've ever been.
